Annie's nightclub returns to the mid-'90s tonight.
After fly touring all summer the band Seven Mary Three performs along with opening bands Blue Karma and Hoodwinked Thanksgiving eve.
Seven Mary Three first appeared on the scene during 1992 at the College of William and Mary in Virginia. Following an independent release, the band started recording its first album, American Standard, during the summer of 1995.
Some songs from American Standard can still be heard periodically on radio stations like WEBN. Songs like "My My" or "Cumbersome" dot radio play today and dominated radio play when they were new.
During the next decade, the band released three more albums and did work for soundtracks such as Crazy/Beautiful. None experienced as much success as American Standard.
"I think all of us have grown up and realized that we should appreciate the place we're at and the fans we have," said Casey Daniel, bassist.
Daniel is joined on stage with original band members Jason Ross (guitar, vocals) and Giti Khalsa (drums). The three team up with new band member Thomas Juliano (guitar).
Daniel said that despite being in the band for three years the band still refers to him as the new guy.
Most would classify Seven Mary Three as a rock band, flirting with hard rock. Daniel agrees with the rock band stigma, but says it's up to the fans to categorize them further.
Fans at the concert tonight can expect to hear a mix from all four of the band's albums.
Daniel said the band plays about an even number of songs from each album as well as "all the classics from American Standard."
Despite the falling out of rock bands in recent years and the rise of such icons as Britney Spears or the Backstreet Boys, Seven Mary Three continues to make music optimistically.
"I don't think any of us get bummed out. All types of people can rip on those people, but that's an easy target," said Daniel. "I don't think people who buy Britney or N' Sync are rushing out to buy our records."
Following this latest tour, the band will return to the recording studio to work on a new album Daniel hopes will be out by spring. Daniel is excited because this will be the first record Juliano will have been involved with since the beginning. He said Juliano has brought a whole new perspective with him.
The band may test out some new material on the crowd at Annie's provided they feel comfortable enough with the new song.
"Even the best of bands can't just pick up and play a new song," said Daniel.
Daniel said that despite recent mediocre success the band is optimistic about the future. He says at this point in time the band is simply trying to "reach out."
"The more you play with certain people the more you get intune with what you're doing," said Daniel.
He said a long term goal for the band would be to release an album every year or year and a half without the hold ups of the record industry. For now, he just enjoys the road.
"I like getting up and being in a different place every day," Daniels said.
